Career that you love with low pay or a career that is whatever with high pay?

I have always wanted to be a police officer. The issue is that the pay is kinda sucky (45k starting on average, before taxes and not including overtime) and the hours can be pretty harsh on family life. However, I know that I would enjoy what I do and would rarely regret having to wake up in the morning to go to work. I am a college student and my current major is criminal justice, but I'm debating on changing my major to something that will earn me a career that will have better pay and great hours. What would you do.... a career that you love with low pay or a career that is whatever with high pay?
