How do I get an appraisal for an Ancient Mayan Vase?

My Aunt was given a vase that was found in El Salvador in Central America. Her purpose of getting an appraisal would be to sell/auction it for top dollar. The problem is we don't know where to begin, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
