What's the title of this anime? is anyone familiar?

I remember watching it at the same time I watched proj. A-Ko (w/ Eng. subs & can be actually an older/newer anime than proj. A-Ko); it had Eng. subs, the 1 episose I watched started w/ a grp. (on-horse) being chased, then they come thru this mtn.-p with the entire mountain(?) filled with troops of the local lord/friend and those chasing them run-away... the story premise being that they have in their party a sort-of prince/contender-for-the-throne who the other contender (userper?) wants killed... after they get to the castle/fort, that evening, a person (in?) tries to kill the prince... but he doesn't, instead they talk, before they could finish talking, the lord of the castle spies the in and attacks him, drawing 2 swords. No magic, supernatural powers, guns, robots involved, just swords; sort of Western-Medieval inspired sword-weilding era (not Jap. samurai-type)
