Citizenship Regulations - EU, AUS, UK, CAN...looking for a tax break!?
EU is not a country but an union of countries in Europe. Citizenship in the EU is based on having citizenship in a country that is a member of the EU. All countries require that you live there for a period of time and are free of any immigration controls. UK for example requires five years of residency and with at least one year being free of immigration control. However the UK is in the process of lengthening to requirement to six years I believe. Other EU countries have similar requirements along with language requirements. Finally Australia as I understand has tighter controls than the UK or EU. So I would suspect Australia would be much more difficult to get citizenship.
